WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING!

Upon hearing of the high demand for workers, I decided to rejoin the workforce, but at age 70, I was not sure if anyone would want to hire me. I thought, “No computer, no recent work history, no confidence, not even sure what I could do!”  Someone suggested I call the Encore program, but I wavered for several days before calling Simone McNitt, Director of the program. Simone encouraged me, overcoming many of my objections, and invited me to come in the following Tuesday.  After working with Simone McNitt and her Encore Employment Enterprise team.  To date, I’ve had more work than I ever imagined I could do. All because one person listened with her heart, reached out with her hand, and made a difference in my life.

When I first talked with the staff at Encore Employment Enterprise, I had been working in a part-time, for government sponsored training program at National Caucus and Center on Black Aging   and trying hard to find a full-time position that matched my previous work experience and education. My job search seemed to go nowhere. After working with Ann Hunter, at E3 she showed me how to write a resume that spoke to my work experience.  In less than a month I accepted a great position with Circle of Care, a non-profit providing mental health/behavioral health services and chemical dependency treatment to community residents.

When I became unemployed during COVID-19, Simone McNitt provided me with hope in the midst of a two-month solo quarantine.

The first time I spoke to Simone, she suggested I make a career move which I had never considered. As a veteran journalist with over 20 years of newspaper experience, I was searching for a position to fuel my passion for writing.

As we were brainstorming my next career move, Simone asked if I had ever considered grant writing. I had not. She then suggested I enroll in grant writing classes at Cleveland State University.

I took her advice, and it’s one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am now a certified grant writer thanks to the encouragement from Simone.

It just goes to show how much one person who cares can impact another person’s life. Thanks to Simone’s motivation, my passion for writing has been renewed. I will forever be grateful for her help.

 Sincerely,

 Theresa N.
